How can we
help?

Who are Hampton & Rowe?

A customer-facing State Pension support service, an independent paid service.

Why might this matter to me?

Caring years, marriage, bereavement, divorce, age, deferred pension or an older National Insurance record could all be worth checking.

Do I have to use a company?

No. You can contact HMRC or DWP yourself, free of charge. People choose us because we do all the heavy lifting for you.

Who makes the final decision?

HMRC and/or DWP, depending on the issue. Hampton & Rowe does not decide entitlement.

A little perspective

The past can still shape
what you receive today.

Caring years, older records and life changes may all be worth another look.

02 / What may be worth a closer look

One pension.
Several possible reasons you may be underpaid.

Your State Pension is shaped by the rules that applied to you, your National Insurance history and what happened across your life. There is no single explanation for every underpayment.

These are some of the areas that may be relevant.

Caring years & HRP

Home Responsibilities Protection applied to certain parents and carers between 1978 and 2010.

How can I check who I am dealing with?

Hampton & Rowe is an independent paid service. We are not part of HMRC or DWP, and those departments make the official entitlement decisions.

What does the initial check involve?

The Check Now button opens our onboarding form. It asks for information about you, your State Pension and relevant Child Benefit or caring history. The information is reviewed after onboarding; the form itself does not constitute a government entitlement decision.

What is HRP?

Home Responsibilities Protection helped protect State Pension entitlement for certain parents and carers between 6 April 1978 and 5 April 2010. NI credits replaced HRP from 2010. Read the full guide.

I don't have old paperwork. Can I still start?

Often, yes. Original documents can be helpful but are not always available or required at the start. Tell us what you know and we can explain what evidence or alternatives may be relevant.

How long could it take?

Timing varies depending on the issue and the government department handling it. HMRC and DWP control decision-making and processing times, so no timeframe can be guaranteed.

Who actually decides whether I am entitled?

HMRC, DWP or the relevant government authority. Hampton & Rowe can assess, prepare and progress a case, but does not make the official entitlement decision.

Do I have to use Hampton & Rowe?

No. You can contact HMRC or DWP directly, as appropriate, without paying us.

Will I pay anything if there are no arrears?

No success fee is charged if no relevant arrears are paid. The total success fee is 36% including VAT of relevant net arrears actually received. See how our fees work.
